Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths)

1. It is said there could be a rematch between Sakio Bika and Jaidon Codrington. They initally fought in the Contender Finale and Bika won in a hard fought fight of the year candidate fight stopping Codrington in the 8th round. Bika won $750,000 as the grand prize of the Contender Season 3 series. It is said this rematch could possibly be on the undercard of the Mosley-Judah fight on May 31 if Golden Boy and the Contender can work out a deal.
2. Also a possibility on the undercard of the Mosley-Judah fight could be Jorge Barrios taking on Rocky Juarez. This fight could be a major fight because Barrios lost his WBO Superweight title to Joan Guzman in 2006 and has had only one fight since. He is coming off having surgery for retinal tears which forced him to pull out of his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. Rocky Juarez took his spot and lost to Marquez in a very one-sided fight. For Juarez this fight is extemely important because he desperately needs a good win to get back in the title picture. He is 0-3 in title fights and you only get so many chances.
3. Zab Judah has been reinstated by the Nevada Boxing Commission and stearnly warned that if he has anymore issues with behavior he will probably not be licensed in the state of Nevada again. For those of you that don't know, Judah has a hot head and does stupid things when he does not get his way. Strike one was when he was KOd by Kosta Tsyzu he threw a fit at referee Jay Nady and put his glove to him like was going to attack him and then threw a stool across the ring. He was suspended and fined and life moves on. Then strike 2 came when Judah was losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and then intentionally hits Floyd well below the belt and then hits him behind the head. A riot breaks out and this fool is seen throwing punches in the riot. He was fined and suspended for a year. So could he be embarking on strike 3 soon? My guess is yes.
4. Oscar De La Hoya who is continuing to expand his portfolio out side of boxing is looking to purchase a 50% stake in the Houston Dynamo which is a MLS Soccer Team. Oscar will be purchasing this through his Golden Boy Promotions banner. Another great business move by the Golden Boy.
5. It appears newly unified Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko will be fighting hiw WBO mandatory challenger Tony Thompson soon. Thompson who earned his mandatory title shot quite some time ago is ready to cash in on what he is owed and I don't blame him. I just hope he is ready though.

Well on March 8, Sam Peter is fighting Oleg Maskaev. No it is not going to be an all-time great but it will clear up the issues with the WBC Heavyweight belt. Maskaev is the actual WBC Champ but Peter is the Interim Champ because Maskaev kept getting injured and prolonging the fight so the WBC made Peter the interim champ. So there fight will once and for all settle who is the WBC Heavyweight Champion.

I felt like De La Hoya was only fighting for the money. He's smart like that.

Funny how you have a boxing blog and I was just thinking about how UFC has hurt the sport.

Don, I am not a fan of the UFC, MMA stuff. I love the original sweet science. To be honest UFC has made boxing step up their game in my opinion. 2007 was a magical year for true boxing fans. Taylor-Pavlik, Vasquez-Marquez I and II, Mayweather-De La Hoya which was not the best but made plenty of money, Mayweather-Hatton and a few more. These were not only great fights but great events. The best met and handled their business.

Don keep coming back because boxing is my passion and I can talk about it all day long.
