Cory Spinks is going to fight Verno Phillips on March 27, 2008. The fight is going to take place in St. Louis Missouri at the Scottrade Center, the hometown of Cory Spinks. Spinks will be defending his IBF Junior Middleweight title against Phillips who is the mandatory challenger for the title. This will be Spinks third World title fight in St. Louis, the first being when he lost his Undisputed Welterweight Title to Zab Judah and the second when he won his current IBF Junior Middleweight title from Roman Karmazin. This fight should be a good one but possibly an empty one citing that the fight is on an unusual fight day of a Thursday night.
Also fighting as the co-feature is rising junior welterweight contender Devon Alexander taking on Miguel Callist. Alexander, who is also from St. Louis and trained by Spinks's trainer Kevin Cunningham, will be fighting in a regional title unification bout. Regional titles are not a huge deal but it is the beginning step in moving up to world title contention. This should be a great homecoming night for both Spinks and Alexander.
