Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 5/27/08

1. Don King won the purse bid from the WBO to stage the Nate Campbell-Joel Casamayor fight. The winning bid was $1,220,000 and the purse is supposed to be split 50/50 instead of the traditional 80/20 in favor of the champion. King has stated the fight, if signed, will take place on August 27 in either England, Florida, or Las Vegas. Golden Boy put a bid of $571,000 for the fight. Pretty weak bid futher showing they really did not want the fight to take place. The WBO gave Don King until May 29 at 4pm EST to send the contract to Golden Boy. All parties must have the contracts signed and the WBO must have receive the signed contracts no later than June 3 by 4pm EST. If Campbell does not sign the contract then Casamayor would become full WBO Lightweight Champion. If Casamayor does not sign, then Campbell would be free to make an optional defense while the next mandatory challenger is determined. This should be interesting.

2. More details on David Haye signing with Golden Boy. Haye signed a 5 year exclusive contract with Golden Boy Promotions for his fights in the United States and Golden Boy will be the co-promoter for his fights in England. Haye will fight under his own promotion company Hayemaker Promotions in England. Haye also signed a deal with Setanta Sports that will air four of his fights plus six other fights, which one will be a British Title bout, under his Hayemaker Promotions banner. The deal with Setanta will run through 2009. Haye's next four fights are supposed to be staged at the O2 Arena which is owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group. AEG recently purchased a minority stake in Golden Boy Promotions. Whew, big business here.

3. Paulie "Magic Dumbass" Malignaggi has reportedly completely shaved his hair off. As you should already know, he fought with braided hair extensions until his corner cut them off Saturday. Apparently Paulie shaved his hair Monday night and went to the doctor to check out his hand on Tuesday morning. He believes unless something really horrible is going on with his right hand, he should still be ready to fight Ricky Hatton in November.

4. If Paulie Malignaggi cannot fight in November, there is someone else ready to take his spot against Ricky Hatton. That fighter is newly crowned WBC Junior Welterweight Champion Timothy Bradley. Bradley defeated Junior Witter earlier this month. As you already know, Hatton has been avoiding Witter like he had the Ebola virus. Hatton could fight Bradley and if he won, Hatton would get the WBC belt. Hatton has never held the WBC belt, which is probably the most respected belt of them all.

5. Jean Pascal has pulled out of his June 6 ESPN2 fight against Fulgenicio Zuniga with a shoulder injury. The fight is supposed to be rescheduled in July or August.

Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 5/26/08

1. Vitali Klitschko has once again lost his bid at being Mayor of Kiev. This round he came in third. Now he can fully focus on trying not to get injured and cancelling yet another fight against Samuel Peter. The fight with Peter is scheduled to take place in October.

2. Oscar De La Hoya has stated he will not pursue a fight with Ricky Hatton. De La Hoya said that Hatton is a 140lb fighter and should not try to fight above that weight. De La Hoya then in my opinion lied when he stated he could make 140 if he tried but would not do so. De La Hoya as quietly as it was kept did not even make the 150 limit he had for his fight with Steve Forbes. If you watch the weigh in, De La Hoya tipped the scale at 150.5lbs. Plus if he could make 147 as easy as he has stated, then why is he fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. at a catchweight of 150lbs. Hmm, makes you wonder.

3. It appears HBO is going to do a Countdown for Cotto-Margarito after all. At first HBO was not, for some unknown crazy reason, going to do a countdown. However due to the fans demand they have reconsidered. Good for HBO. They should not mess up the promotion of one of the best fights of the year by not doing a countdown.

4. Golden Boy Promotions, who promotes Ricky Hatton, is not agreeing with Hatton that he is ready for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. after the Paulie Malignaggi fight. GoldenBoy believes that after Hatton fights and hopefully beats Malignaggi that he should fight either Manny Pacquiao, Juan Diaz, or Michael Katsidis. Of course each of these fighters would need to win. They are all promoted by Golden Boy so the money would stay in house. Isn't life great, for Golden Boy.

5. Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion David Haye has signed a promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions. The deal was closed when Golden Boy was in England for the Ricky Hatton fight this past Saturday. Haye is moving up to Heavyweight and has his eyes on Hasim Rahman for his first big test at the division. Rahman is a former two-time Heavyweight Champion who is desperate need for a big win to get back in the picture. The Haye-Rahman fight fell apart due to money issues awhile ago, but hopefully it will get done this time.

Ronald "Winky" Wright Is Missing; Can't Be Found; Please Help!!!!

Have you seen this man? His name is Ronald "Winky" Wright. He is missing. He is approaching 1 year of inactivity in the ring. He used to be a World Champion. He dominated Sugar Shane Mosley and Felix Trinidad back to back. He is still considered to be a Top 10 Pound 4 Pound fighter but may fall out due to inactivity. Some say he is hard to fight. Some say he is hard to work with due to high demands of money. If you have any tips about the whereabouts of this man and the next time he will fight, please let me know.

Ali-Liston: The Phantom Punch May 25, 1965

This is the 43rd Anniversary of the Muhammad Ali-Sonny Liston rematch. This fight is often referred to as the Phantom Punch. Take a look and you decide if it was a real punch or a dive.

Hatton Defeats Lazcano; Malignaggi Squeaks Past Ndou

Ricky Hatton returned to the win column yesterday after a 12 round UD over Juan Lazcano in front of 56,000 people. The scores were 120-111, 120-108 and 118-110, but do not by any means let that fool you into thinking it was a walk through the park for Hatton. Hatton took lots of clean punches and despite what he may say, he was in danger on more than one occassion. As the fight began, Hatton was not as aggressive as he has been in the past. However he still has not learned how to move his head and he continued to absorb punishment. His energy level was still there and his attack to the body is still good, but those who watch closely can see he is a spent fighter. The aggressive style Hatton has used is starting to work against him even against less opponents like Lazcano. In rounds 8 and 10, Hatton ate several lefts hands that truly stunned him. In the 10th round, Lazcano caught Hatton with a check left hook similiar to the one that put him on his ass against Mayweather. Hatton's knees buckled and he held on. He then took several more shots before the ref stepped in to break the fighters. Then the ref warned Lazcano and then Hatton's shoe needed to be tied. Hatton had time to recover and he was not hurt like that again. If we play the what if game for a moment, if Hatton had not gotten that time to rest he would have been put on his ass again. I am almost positive because his knees buckled hard and he was taking punches. Hatton did dominate most of the fight, but against a lesser opponent who had not fought in 15 months prior to yesterday. My concern for Hatton is when he steps up against a better opponent that he gets dropped and KOd again. He keeps talking about he wants a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr., there is no way in hell he needs to be in the ring with Mayweather again. Mayweather would get him out a lot sooner because Hatton's weaknesses are still wide open and even his strengths of attack are not what they used to be. It was a good confidence win for a World Champion who was last KOd, but there was no improvements to make me think he should step up in competition like he did against Mayweather.

Paulie Malignaggi got a split decision victory over Lovemore Ndou in a piss poor fight. Malignaggi, who loves to taunt and never shut up, came into the ring with hair extensions as a way to piss off Ndou. However by the end of the first round, Malignaggi had been caught with several hard right hands and the extensions were going wild all over his face. Between rounds his corner kept trying to tie and tape them into a ponytail, but they kept coming loose. They affected him because they kept getting in his face and blinding him from seeing punches. Finally right before the ninth round, his corner cut them out. The fact that Malignaggi came into the ring with those extensions proved just how disrespectful he is as a fighter and a so-called Champion. It is one thing to taunt a fighter before the fight, but to try to do it during the fight is just plain stupid. I have to admit I was really hoping Ndou would step it up and KO Malignaggi. It is obvious Malignaggi does not have much power and Ndou should have really pressed him. The combination of those extensions in his face and his lack of power, Ndou should have really punished Malignaggi. In the sixth round, Malignaggi hurt his right hand and was pretty much a left hand fighter from then on. The scores were 115-114 N’dou, 116-112 and 116-113 for Malignaggi. I was not impressed with Malignaggi and I lost pretty much all respect for him. The fans in England booed him before and after the fight. No one wants to see a fighter who cares more about his look and ring entrance than the actual fight. After the fight, Malignaggi said he believes he broke his right hand. Well in that case he may have career problems because that is the same hand that he has had several surgeries on already. Also if his hand is broken that is going to delay or actually cancel his scheduled fight with Hatton for the fall. As for Ndou, he probably will not get a title shot again. I wish he would have pressed a little more, he probably could gotten the win. Paulie, grow up, because you already have no power and your funny antics are just plain stupid. No one is laughing at your antics but you.

More Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths)

Floyd Mayweather Jr. may vacate his WBC Welterweight Title. If he does, the Andre Berto-Miki Rodriguez fight scheduled for June 21 could be for the vacant WBC title. Since Floyd is chasing only mega fights, he would not defend the title against a true welterweight opponent within the WBC time limits. Also for Floyd he will now save on all sanctioning fees for his fights as he will just fight for big money. He will continue to hold the Ring Magazine Welterweight Title.
Also just mentioned, Joshua Clottey and Zab Judah have agreed to terms for an August 2nd fight for the vacant IBF Welterweight Title. The contracts are being drawn up and should be signed next week.

Pacquiao-Diaz: Lethal Combination

Manny Pacquiao and David Diaz pose at a press stop to promote their June 28 HBOPPV fight titled Lethal Combination. Pacquiao will be going for the WBC Lightweight belt that Diaz currently holds. If successful, Pacquiao would hold a title in a fifth weight division which is spectacular.

Hagler-Hearns April 15, 1985

In honor of Marvelous Marvin Hagler's Birthday, I decided to post one of his greatest fights.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler Turns 54!!!!

Marvelous Marvin Hagler turns 54 today. Happy Birthday Champ!!!!!

Keep Punching!!!

Congratulations Nate Campbell!!!!

Congratulations to IBF/WBO/WBA Lightweight Champion Nate Campbell on getting married to Rosa Roberts this past Saturday, May 17. It was a private ceremony in Jacksonville Florida. I wish them both well.

Cotto-Margarito: The Battle-La Batalla"

Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito pose for pictures in promotion of their July 26 HBO PPV fight. This fight is titled, "The Battle-La Batalla." Many expect this fight to be an explosive war that will go down in history as great. I for one agree and cannot wait to see this fight.

Hatton-Lazcano; Malignaggi-Ndou Weigh In

Paulie Malignaggi wearing a braided wig to simply piss off Lovemore NDou.
Ricky Hatton:139.75

Juan Lazcano:139.75

Paulie Malignaggi:139.75

Lovemore Ndou:139

This Junior Welterweight doubleheader will take place live on Versus at 3:30pm Est this Saturday May 24. It is going to be a sold out crowd of over 55,000 people at the Manchester Stadium to watch Malignaggi in the co-feature defend his IBF Junior Welterweight Title in a rematch against Lovemore Ndou. Then in the main event, Ricky Hatton will try to get back in the win column in his first fight since his KO loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. He will defend his IBO and Ring Magazine Junior Welterweight Title against Juan Lazcano. Hatton is the hometown hero and favorite so the electricity for this fight will be amazing.

Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 5/23/08

1. It is official, Kendall Holt will finally get his rematch against Ricardo Torres July 5 on Showtime. Holt lost by 11th round TKO to Torres in Torres home country of Colombia. The fight was controversial as the crowd got very rowdy and threw things in the ring during the fight. The fight, WBO Junior Welterweight Championship, will take place at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas live on Showtime. Hopefully all controversy will be put to rest.

2. Dino Duva denies that there is any agreement for Samuel Peter to fight either Matt Skelton or Audley Harrison. Duva said those fighters are on the radar as are a few others, but no agreements have been made. Peter hopes to get a tune-up fight sometime in July.

3. Evander Holyfield is being sued over a unpaid $550,000 loan. Holyfield took out the loan to landscape his 235 acre property in Fayette County, GA. Now all kinds of questions and rumors are circulating as to why Holyfield kept fighting. Is he broke? Does he need to keep fighting for money? Hopefully this is just a misunderstanding.

4. Fres Oquendo says his camp is in talks with James Toney's camp for a fight in July. Toney's camp is supposed to be trying to set up a fight with Hasim Rahman. Not sure who Toney is going to fight but the more they talk the older he is getting waiting.

5. Allan Green, who pissed off ESPN by simply not showing up to his scheduled fight a few months ago, has said he will not fight on ESPN cards again. Green says he wants big fights and that is what he is going after. He made a valid point in stating that as a world ranked fighter he needs to fight on the bigger networks such as Showtime and HBO and at bigger venues for more money. Apparently Showtime is showing some interest in Allan Green, so hopefully he can get what he wants from them.

6. Timothy Bradley, who went to England and upset Junior Witter, officially received his WBC Junior Welterweight Title. Bradley will be the guest in the ESPN2 studios for Friday Night Fights this evening.

7. Mike Tyson has made a new friend in Madonna and promised to help her do charity work in the impoverished nation of Malawi. I am happy that Mike is trying to turn his somewhat down times into something positive. God Bless Him for it.

Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 5/17/08

1. Samuel Peter is going to fight either Audley Harrison or Matt Skelton on July 12 at the O2 Arena in London. Neither fighter is really deserving of a title shot especially Harrison. Hope the tune-up does not upset the Champion.

2. As stated Chris Byrd was rushed to the hospital after his KO loss to Shaun George. Byrd is out of the hospital and doing fine. His spirits are high. If his wife's words stand true, Chris Byrd will never box again. For his health I hope he does stay out of the ring.

3. Junior Witter is trying to get a rematch with Timothy Bradley immediately in the United States. Bradley, the new WBC Junior Welterweight Champion, is not opposed to the fight if the money is right.

Happy Birthday Sugar Ray Leonard

Today is Sugar Ray Leonard's 52nd Birthday. Happy Birthday Champ!!!!

Time To Retire!!! Chris Byrd Knocked Out In 9

Former Heavyweight Champion turned Light Heavyweight, Chris Byrd was destroyed by Shaun George. Byrd was making his debut at Light Heavyweight and just did not have it in him to win. It appeared that age, years of fighting, and possible drop in weight not to mention an aggressive opponent who came to win were all too much for Byrd. George was able to land hard right hands throughout the whole fight. In the first round, George stunned Byrd and a little later in the round he had Byrd down. It could have been a slip or a knockdown, depends on who you ask. I personally thought it was a knockdown. In the next few rounds, George continued to land hard right hand counters. Byrd never used a jab in the fight which could have possibly helped him in the fight. Byrd really did nothing to keep George really occupied on defense. In the 6th round, Byrd turned up his intensity but still was not looking good. Out of all the rounds, that would have been the best round to say Byrd won even though I don't think he did. As the 8th round came around, it became even more obvious that Byrd was almost done. He was getting hit more, his legs look very shaky, and he had no confidence at all. Then came the 9th round and you could kinda feel that Byrd was not going to finish. Maybe it was just me, but it was like the momentum took a different swing and that swing was not good for Byrd. Then with about 41 seconds left in the 9th, George unleashed a left uppercut and a hard right hand to drop Byrd. It was not a pretty sight as Byrd's legs look like they completely gave out. As Byrd was falling, he raised his left arm open and landed extremely hard on his left shoulder. When Byrd somehow got up, it was obvious he had injured his left shoulder. The fight continued and Shaun George ran over to finish an injured, shaky Chris Byrd. George landed a few right hands beating Byrd down into the corner ropes. When Byrd rose again, you could look in his eyes and see there was no more fight in him. Referee Jay Nady saw the same thing and stopped the fight at 2:45 of the 9th round. For Byrd, it is time to call it a career. He took too much punishment in his last fights at Heavyweight and is too damaged to fight top level competition in any division. He had a good career but it is time to call it a career. I wish Byrd the best because he has always been a very respectable gentleman in the sport. As for Shaun George, time to keep it moving. He has a great KO win over a big name. Time to step up the competition and see if he is destined to be a Champion.

*****************************Update*****************************
Chris Byrd passed out in his locker room after the fight and had to be rushed to the hospital. The medicine they gave Byrd to treat his shoulder did not agree with his body. Once he was rushed to the hospital they had to give him some medicine that would counteract the other medicine. I am happy to say that Chris Byrd is doing well now, but it was a scary time for him and his family. Byrd's wife Tracy, said she will not allow him to fight again. So in other words Byrd has retired. Byrd was quoted as saying Shaun George took him to school.

Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 5/16/08

1. It is official, Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito will fight on July 26 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

2. Nate Campbell-Joel Casamayor goes to the WBO pursue bid on May 23. It is widely believe that Joel Casamayor will not fight Campbell and fight Juan Diaz on September 13.

3. Joan Guzman who just vacated his WBO Junior Lightweight title said he would be more than happy to fight Nate Campbell. The WBO has promised Guzman the #1 rank at Lightweight making him the next mandatory for Campbell. Guzman said the best would not fight him at 130 and the best won't fight Campbell at 135, so they should fight each other.

4. A Hasim Rahman-James Toney rematch may happen in July. Both fighters who are on the down of their careers are looking for a bounce back into contention. The first time the two fought in March 2006, Rahman was then WBC Heavyweight Champion and James Toney was the #1 Contender. The two fought to a disappointing draw. Since then Rahman lost the title to Oleg Maskaev and Toney has lost twice to Samuel Peter and beat a nobody then tested positive for steroids.

5. It appears that after Antonio Margarito vacates his IBF Welterweight Title, Joshua Clottey and Zab Judah will fight for the vacant title on August 2nd. The fight if it happens, will take place on HBO with the replay of the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito fight from July 26.

6. There could be a Timothy Bradley-Junior Witter rematch soon. Witter who lost last weekend to Bradley via a split decision, says he could do better. Witter is not only trying to get his WBC Welterweight Belt back but also trying to get his chance at fighting Ricky Hatton back. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 5/15/08

1. Joan Guzman vacated his WBO Junior Lightweight title. After having visa problems, his fight against Alex Arthur was postponed. Then still no date came about. In the meantime, Guzman found out his mother was developing head tumor. No details when Guzman will return to the ring but when he does it will be as a Lightweight (135lbs). Lets keep Joan Guzman's mother in our prayers.

2. Miguel Cotto has not signed his contract for his July 26 fight against Antonio Margarito. It appears that Cotto wants a larger percentage of the gate and the PPV sales. The fight is not endangered but still the contracts need to be signed.

3. Ricky Hatton's dad, Ray, said Junior Witter blew his chance to fight Ricky by losing this past weekend. Hatton who has avoided Witter like the Ebola virus was said to be willing to fight Witter next year. Now that Witter loss, he blew his chance at a fight with him. Geez how did I know that was going to be said after Witter loss. Had Witter won, Hatton would have been quiet still.

4. The WBC has not officially ranked David Haye in the Heavyweight Division, but say he will definitely be in their top-10. Haye had written the WBC a letter asking them to rank him as a Heavyweight since he was vacating his WBC Cruiserweight title.

5. Early reports are indicating that Roy Jones Jr. is asking for a lot of money to fight Joe Calzaghe. Never beyond Roy to ask for a lot of money, but I guess Calzaghe must have an issue with it or else it would not have come up. So now Calzaghe may try aiming his next fight against Kelly Pavlik. This one could be very interesting.

6. Felix Trinidad who needs to retire for good still wants to fight. Trinidad still has his eyes set on fighting either Bernard Hopkins or Oscar De La Hoya. Hopkins turned the fight down after his loss to Calzaghe. However the issue with De La Hoya is weight. De La Hoya says they could fight but the fight would need to be between 154lbs and 160lbs. Trinidad says he could come down to 165lbs, 160lbs is not possible for him to reach. Money talks, lets see if it screams because if it does someone will cave in on the weight.

7. Elvir Muriqi has hired Buddy McGirt to be his trainer. Muriqi is best known for his very game fight against Antonio Tarver, in a fight Muriqi swears he really won. McGirt used to be Tarver's trainer and I am sure that is why Muriqi set his eyes on him. However the chances of a rematch between Muriqi and Tarver are very slim even though Muriqi thinks he deserves one.

8. Chris Byrd is fighting on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights in his debut at Light Heavyweight. Below is a picture of Byrd looking in tight shape. There is no flab on this body, never know Byrd may have just created the 2nd stage of his career. Byrd says he is stronger and faster at Light Heavyweight and we will see how he looks tomorrow night.

9. Alex Arthur may not have to fight to become the WBO Junior Lightweight Champion. Since Joan Guzman is vacating, the WBO will just remove the term interim from Arthur and make him their Champion.

Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 5/13/08

1. David Haye has written a letter to the WBC to relinquish his WBC Cruiserweight Title and ask to be ranked by the WBC as a Heavyweight. Haye wants to pursue his dream of becoming Heavyweight Champion of the World.

2. Ricky Hatton has come down with a chest infection and has halted his training camp. Hatton is supposed to fight Juan Lazcano on May 24. The sparring partners of Hatton have been sent home while Hatton rests. The fight against Lazcano has thus far not been scrapped. Hatton has said he has never pulled out of a fight before and has no intentions of starting.

3. Coming back Hall of Famer Azumah Nelson has stated Julio Cesar Chavez has approached him about a fight. Nelson, 49, originally turned it down because he was not training. However since Nelson is scheduled to fight fellow Hall of Famer Jeff Fenech,44, in June he may consider fighting Chavez. Nelson says if he defeats Fenech, he will then go for a fight with the 46 year old Chavez. Chavez has not fought since losing in 2006.

4. Winky Wright-Verno Phillips fight this fall??????

5. Zab Judah was supposed to have his stitches removed today. He wants to return to the ring in late June or early July.

6. Manny Pacquiao has finally arrived in Los Angeles to begin camp for his June 28 fight against David Diaz.

Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 5/11/08

1. As you probably have heard now, my best friend(Best Enemy) Zab Judah got hurt and had to pull out of his May 31st fight with Sugar Shane Mosley. Judah fell in the shower and his arm went through the glass shower door causing him to need 50 stitches. No secret that I don't like Zab Judah, but I saw a picture of the gashes in his arm, Nasty.

As you can see from the picture above, those are some nasty gashes in Judah's arm. I hope it heals well so Zab can come back to get his beating in the ring like he deserves.

2. Junior Witter, who has been telling anyone who will listen and even those who won't listen that he could beat Ricky Hatton, lost a split decision to Timothy Bradley. The fight was really an upset because most believe Bradley undeservingly was the #1WBC Junior Welterweight. Throw that bull to the backburner, Bradley who had no championship experience went to England and beat Junior Witter. For Bradley, good paydays and fights should follow, for Witter his chance to fight Ricky Hatton got a lot tougher.

3. The WBC has kept Glen Johnson as the #1 Light Heavyweight after a close and controversial loss to Chad Dawson. Many believe Dawson lost the fight. So Dawson is supposed to fight Interim-Champion Adrian Diaconu and Johnson is supposed to fight #2 Light Heavyweight Silvio Branco then the winners fight each other. Should be interesting because Dawson was not in a hurry to meet Johnson again and he wants to fight Antonio Tarver. It could be possible Dawson vacates to fight Tarver or protest to get an exception so he can keep his WBC belt and fight Tarver. Lots of scenarios that could exist for this one.

4. Samuel Peter-Vitali Klitschko is agreed to and supposed to happen in October. Now with the agreement, Peter can fight a tune-up before hand. The tune-up fight appears to be possibly taking place in July against frequent Champion Challenger Andrew Golota. Yes Golota. If Golota does get the chance to fight Samuel Peter, this undoubtedly will be his last chance at a Heavyweight Title. Oh this could be a lovely situation.

5. The WBO has ordered a purse bid for Nate Campbell-Joel Casamayor. It is funny, Nate Campbell wants the fight so bad he is willing to split the purse bid from the traditional 80-20 for the champion to an even 50-50 split. Casamayor keeps running his mouth but won't take the fight. Less talking and more signing to fight.

6. There are talks to stage a Israel Vasquez-Raphael Marquez IV. The first three fights were absolutely sensational and after all of that the best money for either of them to make fighting is still against each other. The fans loved it and the public still wants to see it. So it appears it may happen.

7. Since Zab Judah had to pull out of the fight with Shane Mosley, it appears the fight will not be rescheduled. Mosley's wife and manager, Jin, is upset about Judah and does not trust him. She thinks if they rescheduled the fight that Judah will somehow pull out of that fight. Jin is looking at this from a business standpoint saying she lost money from training expenses. Honestly I liked the fight and wish they could have rescheduled the fight. Hopefully they still can. However word is going around saying Mosley may fight Ricardo Mayorga. I have to admit not the fight I want to see but we will see what happens.

8. The Ruslan Chagaev-Nikolai Valuev fight has been rescheduled to July 5. Chagaev had to pull out of the May 31 fight due to illness.

9. Well the numbers have come in for Floyd Mayweather Jr's WWE fight against Big Show. The numbers were nowhere near as impressive as the WWE had hoped for. The fight sold about 1.1 million PPV buys at $54.95. Last year the Wrestlemania sold about 1.2 million at $49.95. So this year's revenue, at about $23.8 million, was less than last year's. This also says that if the WWE really did pay Mayweather $20 million as he has stated, they would take a loss after everything was said and done. Funny thing is when the investors were asked if they paid Mayweather $20 million they said NO!!!!! Did Floyd lie to hype us up????

10. After losing to Antonio Margarito again, Main Events has released welterweight Kermit Cintron. No comment from Cintron on being released, but after the Margarito fight in April he said he was not going to retire from boxing. So hopefully he can get himself together and land back on his feet.

11. Oscar De La Hoya who beat Steve Forbes last week, has a hairline fracture in a facial bone. Yes Steve Forbes the light hitting fighter he beat last week busted De La Hoya up enough to give him a hairline fracture in his face. Hmm is he sure he wants to try his hands at Mayweather again????

Apology!!!!!

I would like to apologize for not providing the best boxing information for the past few weeks. I have been battling illness the past few weeks and I have spent limited time on the internet. I have been keeping up with the boxing world. I am happy to say I am back and get ready because I got plenty to say. For those who continued to check on the site, Thank You.

Oscar Defeats Forbes; Floyd Mayweather Jr Next

Oscar De La Hoya worked the jab and won a 12 round UD over Steve Forbes. Forbes was game through the whole fight but could not really hurt Oscar. Forbes landed some clean shots to Oscar as Oscar's face shows. He had swelling under both eyes as well as a cut on his nose. However Oscar fought like a tall man, used his jab and took advantage of his size advantage. A few times Oscar stunned Forbes, but still could not knock down or knockout Steve Forbes. Now lets put this fight in perspective. Oscar fought a good fight and now he is headed towards fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr in September. So what does the fight tell us about Oscar's chances in a rematch against Mayweather. Well first Oscar is going to be an active fighter instead of coming off a year layoff like the first fight. A lot of the rust was shaken off of Oscar as he got 12 hard rounds in with a very solid fighter. The timing came back for Oscar and he showed his jab consistently. Instead of lowering himself down to fight small, he stood his ground and fought tall. Now onto putting the fight into perspective in a different light. Forbes does not have KO power, but Floyd does. Floyd is faster and stronger than Forbes. Now Oscar took some clean blows from Forbes and his face shows it. Will he be better in September because if he fights the same way Floyd could possibly beat him easier. While all of HBO was so impressed by Oscar, you have to look at the bigger picture. Steve Forbes is no Floyd Mayweather Jr. He uses certain moves in the ring similiar but he is not Floyd. Oscar still has a lot of work to do in order to beat Mayweather. I will say by taking a tune-up fight and bringing back Floyd Mayweather Sr will definitely better his chances at winning. However I guess the truth will not be revealed until the fight actually happens. So get ready because Mayweather-De La Hoya II is coming.

Homecoming: Oscar De La Hoya-Steve Forbes Preview

This Saturday will be the return of the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya to fight live on regular HBO and to his hometown area of Los Angeles. The fight against Steve Forbes is supposed to be what many would call a tuneup before De La Hoya goes on to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a rematch. De La Hoya says 2008 is his last year as a fighter and he plans to fight 3 times this year starting with Forbes. Everything about this fight points to a De La Hoya win, the location, size advantage(in both height and weight), experience, the power and the list goes on. Sounds great, but never count out the other fighter. Steve Forbes is a smart boxer who is tough and well respected in the boxing game. He has never been knockdown in a fight and he does not plan to start this weekend. Forbes has been the smaller guy in many of his fights, so that aspect does not bother him. Sure he has never fought a guy like De La Hoya before, but with all he has to gain I know he is not scared. The fight is supposed to take place at a catchweight of 150lbs, 4lbs under what De La Hoya last fought at and 10lbs above what Forbes last fought at. De La Hoya has reunited with his longtime trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr, who also had trained Forbes for several fights. Forbes is being trained by Jeff Mayweather, Floyd Sr's brother and Floyd Jr's uncle. Can you smell the family rivalry in all this? Do not forget Roger Mayweather had the assignment of training Forbes first but was told to back out since he is the trainer of Floyd Jr. Did you get all that? So lets break down the fight. As stated De La Hoya has the advantages but in order to win he has to use them. Oscar has a great jab and one of the best left hooks you will ever see. Oscar has good power and has some quickness, but he has gotten older the quickness has slowed down. With Floyd Sr back in his corner I would imagine they have worked a lot better on the jab as well as defense. Floyd Sr wants his fighter to use all advantages and then not get hit in the process. The thing Oscar needs to do to beat Forbes and possibly stop him is put lots of pressure on from the beginning. He is the bigger guy and Forbes does not have KO power. Oscar needs to establish the jab from the bell and work Forbes's midsection and chest. Cut the ring off because Forbes is a boxer and he loves to stick and move. If Oscar can cut the ring off and get Forbes in a corner he could land some good punches. With the power Oscar has, he could possibly be the first to stop Forbes. Now in order for Forbes to pull out the biggest victory of his career, he has to box. Forbes realizes that he is not a KO artist, so I would suggest he not try to be one now. Stay on your toes and box. Stick and move. Make Oscar burn some of that energy and make his legs tire out. The object is to hit and not be hit and Forbes has the speed to do that. Forbes has the Mayweather shoulder roll and should be able to avoid some punishment when he does get in the corner. However Forbes will not want to pause for long on the ropes to let Oscar get any good punches in. The crowd and probably the judges are against Forbes already, so what he has to do is land clean effective punches and make Oscar miss wildly. If he can get Oscar to miss where it is very obvious, then there can be no denying who landed the better punches. Forbes needs to also hit Oscar to the body. Oscar has been KOd to the body once and if you recall it did not look like a truly damaging punch. So Forbes should throw his own left hook to the body of Oscar to take some wind out of him too. Although most see this being a blowout win for Oscar De La Hoya, I am uncertain. My uncertainty is alive because I have seen Oscar get a gift decision in a tuneup (his UD against Felix Sturm in June 2004), the year of inactivity for Oscar, and the possibility of overlooking Forbes. Forbes has really nothing to lose, 99% of the world had wrote him off when they heard his name mentioned for the fight. The only person who probably really sees him winning is himself. Sure his team may say we think you will win, but they tend to tell you what you need to hear. The one who has the true belief is Steve Forbes. I personally think Oscar will win, but I am not sure about the KO or blowout. I would not be totally surprised if Forbes was able to etch out a Split Decision. From watching Forbes on the Contender and watching some of his other fights, I see a guy who will not give in. All the advantages belong to Oscar De La Hoya, but that is when Steve Forbes is going to be the most dangerous opponent for him. Don't miss it, Saturday May 3 Live on HBO.
