Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 5/23/08

1. It is official, Kendall Holt will finally get his rematch against Ricardo Torres July 5 on Showtime. Holt lost by 11th round TKO to Torres in Torres home country of Colombia. The fight was controversial as the crowd got very rowdy and threw things in the ring during the fight. The fight, WBO Junior Welterweight Championship, will take place at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas live on Showtime. Hopefully all controversy will be put to rest.

2. Dino Duva denies that there is any agreement for Samuel Peter to fight either Matt Skelton or Audley Harrison. Duva said those fighters are on the radar as are a few others, but no agreements have been made. Peter hopes to get a tune-up fight sometime in July.

3. Evander Holyfield is being sued over a unpaid $550,000 loan. Holyfield took out the loan to landscape his 235 acre property in Fayette County, GA. Now all kinds of questions and rumors are circulating as to why Holyfield kept fighting. Is he broke? Does he need to keep fighting for money? Hopefully this is just a misunderstanding.

4. Fres Oquendo says his camp is in talks with James Toney's camp for a fight in July. Toney's camp is supposed to be trying to set up a fight with Hasim Rahman. Not sure who Toney is going to fight but the more they talk the older he is getting waiting.

5. Allan Green, who pissed off ESPN by simply not showing up to his scheduled fight a few months ago, has said he will not fight on ESPN cards again. Green says he wants big fights and that is what he is going after. He made a valid point in stating that as a world ranked fighter he needs to fight on the bigger networks such as Showtime and HBO and at bigger venues for more money. Apparently Showtime is showing some interest in Allan Green, so hopefully he can get what he wants from them.

6. Timothy Bradley, who went to England and upset Junior Witter, officially received his WBC Junior Welterweight Title. Bradley will be the guest in the ESPN2 studios for Friday Night Fights this evening.

7. Mike Tyson has made a new friend in Madonna and promised to help her do charity work in the impoverished nation of Malawi. I am happy that Mike is trying to turn his somewhat down times into something positive. God Bless Him for it.
