Oscar De La Hoya worked the jab and won a 12 round UD over Steve Forbes. Forbes was game through the whole fight but could not really hurt Oscar. Forbes landed some clean shots to Oscar as Oscar's face shows. He had swelling under both eyes as well as a cut on his nose. However Oscar fought like a tall man, used his jab and took advantage of his size advantage. A few times Oscar stunned Forbes, but still could not knock down or knockout Steve Forbes. Now lets put this fight in perspective. Oscar fought a good fight and now he is headed towards fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr in September. So what does the fight tell us about Oscar's chances in a rematch against Mayweather. Well first Oscar is going to be an active fighter instead of coming off a year layoff like the first fight. A lot of the rust was shaken off of Oscar as he got 12 hard rounds in with a very solid fighter. The timing came back for Oscar and he showed his jab consistently. Instead of lowering himself down to fight small, he stood his ground and fought tall. Now onto putting the fight into perspective in a different light. Forbes does not have KO power, but Floyd does. Floyd is faster and stronger than Forbes. Now Oscar took some clean blows from Forbes and his face shows it. Will he be better in September because if he fights the same way Floyd could possibly beat him easier. While all of HBO was so impressed by Oscar, you have to look at the bigger picture. Steve Forbes is no Floyd Mayweather Jr. He uses certain moves in the ring similiar but he is not Floyd. Oscar still has a lot of work to do in order to beat Mayweather. I will say by taking a tune-up fight and bringing back Floyd Mayweather Sr will definitely better his chances at winning. However I guess the truth will not be revealed until the fight actually happens. So get ready because Mayweather-De La Hoya II is coming.
