Ali-Liston: The Phantom Punch May 25, 1965

This is the 43rd Anniversary of the Muhammad Ali-Sonny Liston rematch. This fight is often referred to as the Phantom Punch. Take a look and you decide if it was a real punch or a dive.

Ive flipped flopped on this more than a politician on the Iraq war.

As of now I am of the opinion Sonny threw the fight, he has taken harder shots. What give it away for me is the way he rolled around on the ground hands above head and how steady he was on his feet.

But who knows, I look at it from a different angle tommorow and I might change my mind. thre is supposed to be a movie coming out about him and this fight starring Ving Rhames.

Oh yes I am quite aware of the movie called Phantom Punch with Ving Rhames. I am very excited to see it. I want to see the twist they give into his life as far as him being a mob hitman, and how he possibly died.

As for the punch, I have seen the punch from many different angles. I actually think he got knocked down for real. He was coming in hard and got hit with a hard right hand he did not see. However it is always going to be a debate no matter what conclusion you may come up with. One of the things I love about boxing.

That doesn't look like "first round first minute." Instead, it looks like "first round second minute."

No?
