More Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths)

Floyd Mayweather Jr. may vacate his WBC Welterweight Title. If he does, the Andre Berto-Miki Rodriguez fight scheduled for June 21 could be for the vacant WBC title. Since Floyd is chasing only mega fights, he would not defend the title against a true welterweight opponent within the WBC time limits. Also for Floyd he will now save on all sanctioning fees for his fights as he will just fight for big money. He will continue to hold the Ring Magazine Welterweight Title.
Also just mentioned, Joshua Clottey and Zab Judah have agreed to terms for an August 2nd fight for the vacant IBF Welterweight Title. The contracts are being drawn up and should be signed next week.

I cant blame Floyd at this point in his career if he wants to get the money fights than let him he is still the man untill some one beats him. But i am glad for Andre Berto if Floyd vacates the belt, I have been following him since he turned pro, he was my top prospect pick last year, I just hope he fined tuned that defense. He still needs some work.

I agree with you Clnmike. Berto has his holes in his defense, but he should be a good champion. Hopefully he can improve on his defense and continue to be a better fighter. As for Floyd, he really has nothing to prove. I do think he needs to fight Miguel Cotto to finish his career. Hopefully Cotto wins and Mayweather continues to win so they can both fight each other sometime in 2009 so Mayweather can officially retire.

I would love to see PBF and Cotto fight, after Hoya that really is the only other fight out there that PBF can sqeeze some money out of right now. Every one else is still to green right now, by the time they build a name for themselves it's time for him to really retire.

you cant blame him? lmfao!@ he is NOT 'still the man' if he dodges every REAL fight there is out there. all good though because cotto AND margarito would still demolish him EVEN WORSE at 154 ;]

I want Mayweather-Cotto so bad that it just makes me want to get in on the negotiations. I do not believe Floyd is dodging anyone. I think he is saying, I am the top fighter and I fight when, where, and against who I want to. It took him a long time to get on top and he is trying to enjoy it. He wants to get the most for it. That is why a De La Hoya rematch is happening again and a possible Hatton rematch over in either England or Ireland. He wants to be an event guy. Now I will say for the real boxing fans, that somewhat cheats us because we want to see the best, forget the money and figures. Like when you watch Israel Vasquez-Raphael Marquez fight, those were great fights. The sad thing about it is, all the punishment they took and they together in all three fights did not make with Mayweather made for just one fight with De La Hoya. I believe Mayweather could beat Cotto and I think he could beat Margarito. I do think if him and Cotto continue to win they will fight because it is inevitable in my opinion. What we as fans forget is it is a business side to boxing. Margarito is not known outside of the real boxing fans. Cotto is starting to draw some attention to himself which is great. Mayweather is a 5 division champ, a first ballot Hall of Famer, and really could retire right now. With all fighters there will be someone that most say they dodged. However if a fighter answers every challenge, they will never retire. You have to pick a time to retire and just do it. I personally thought Floyd should have retired after De La Hoya and if not then definitely after Hatton. However money drives his life so here he is again. Hopefully soon he will retire and stay retired.
