1. It is official, Ricky Hatton will be fighting Juan Lazcano on May 24, 2008 at the City of Manchester Stadium before a capacity crowd of 55,000 fans.
2. Edison Miranda has officially called Mikkel Kessler. no longer a fighter. Miranda is still talking trash on Kessler after Kessler turned down the chance to fight Miranda on multiple occasions. Now Miranda has told Winky Wright since he has no fight coming up to contact his promoter to make a fight. Should be interesting to see what happens with this one.
3. The WBC has ordered that new WBC Heavyweight Champion Samuel Peter defends his title against Vitali Klitschko. The free negotiations period will begin on Monday for the promoters to strike a deal. As you may call Vitali Klitschko is the Champion Emeritus and gets his chance at the championship although he has not fought since December 2005. The Peter-Klitschko fight appears to be heading towards a fall fight date.
4. Here is some drama for your mama. Newly crowned Lightweight Champion Nate Campbell and former champion Juan Diaz were both not made to take a pre or post fight drug test. Not sure why that was, however I have heard they have different rules about blood and drug tests in Mexico. In other words they may not be required. Just a little thought there.
5. World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman has stated that Jose Luis Castillo did actually lose the weight to make 140lbs by 11am on the day of the fight. However the doctors ruled that Castillo was not physically fit to fight after losing so much weight so fast and generating high blood pressure. Sulaiman said no fines or suspensions would be placed on Castillo, but he did urge Castillo to retire. He believes if Castillo fights again it will not be at the level that he was accustomed to in his prime.
