Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 3/16/08

1. Bob Arum has stated that Manny Pacquiao will indeed move up to Lightweight (135 pounds) to challenge David Diaz for the WBC Lightweight Championship on June 28 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

2. It appears that Ricky Hatton-Paulie Malignaggi fight is very close to being signed. Of course they both would have to win their fights on May 24. Hatton against Juan Lazcano and Malignaggi against Lovemore N'Dou.

3. In other Ricky Hatton news, 45,000 tickets have been sold in about 36 hours for Hatton's next fight on May 24. The fight is going to take place at the City of Manchester Stadium in Manchester England.

4. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is suing his old promoter Top Rank for backpay. In the lawsuit filed in Las Vegas, Mayweather claims he was shortchanged for his fights against Arturo Gatti and Zab Judah. In his fight deal for those two fights, Mayweather was supposed to receive 85% and 80% respectively of Top Rank's revenues for both fights. It also states that Top Rank has never released any accounting of its income. This lawsuit can get ugly very quick because Bob Arum and Mayweather and Al Haymon (Mayweather's advisor) do not get along at all.
