Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 3/4/08

1. It has been said that Jose Luis Castillo is having trouble making weight AGAIN. On the 7 day weigh in papers he failed to fill in a weight which is against the rules of the WBC. On his 30 weight check, Castillo weighed in at 151. Castillo is supposed to fight Timothy Bradley on Saturday in Cancun, Mexico depending on his weight. His weight needs to be 140 or below.
2. I have heard that Lucian Bute could be the fighter that faces Jeff Lacy on May 31st on the undercard of Shane Mosley-Zab Judah. It would be for Bute's IBF SuperMiddleweight title. The same title Lacy once had before getting beat from pillar to post against Joe Calzaghe.
3. It is said now that Chris Byrd is a promotional free agent. Byrd who I reported before is planning on fighting at the light heavyweight division, is free to sign with whatever promotional company brings the right offer.
4. Roger Mayweather who is the uncle and trainer of Floyd Mayweather Jr. is certainly busy these days. He is training Steve Forbes for his May 3, 2008 fight against Oscar De La Hoya and he is training Ishe Smith for his April 30, 2008 fight against Joel Julio.
5. It has been reported that it took 30 stitches to cover up those gashes over the eyes of Israel Vasquez.
6. The WBA has ordered a rematch of WBA Heavyweight Champion Ruslan Chagaev and former WBA Champion and current mandatory Nicolay Valuev. If an agreement has not been reached by April 3rd an immediate purse bid will be called. You may recall, Chagaev won the title from Valuev via decision in April 2007.
