Boxing Rumors (Maybe Hidden Truths) 3/5/08

1. Don King has decided not to promote Juan Diaz after his fight Saturday night in Cancun. Diaz's manager Willie Savannah has complained about King for a long period of time. Savannah signed with Golden Boy in 2006 then turned around and agreed to sign with Don King and tried to place a bidding war with Golden Boy. Golden Boy bowed out because they felt Savannah was wrong for signing a contract then trying to make them bid against King. Just last month Diaz's lawyer, Fred Levin, quit due to complaints from Willie Savannah. Sounds like the problem is Savannah because Levin had never dropped a client and Don King has never just let a fighter go without a fight. Stay tuned...

2. The Louisiana State Boxing & Wrestling Commission has placed super middleweight contender Allan Green on indefinite suspension. Green as you may recall pulled out of his ESPN2 fight date with no explanation. Rumor has it another promoter has been talking to Green about bigger and better fights therefore creating issues between his current promoter, Tony Holden. Allan Green has not released a statement as to why he pulled out of his fight or any other matters. Right now, Green is not in good company with his promoter or ESPN, which has had Green in the main event in several of their fight cards.

3. It appears through all the possible opponents for Kelly Pavlik, Bob Arum is going to go with a unknown opponent. It is said the two opponents on the new list are Gary Lockett and Marco Antonio Rubio. Rubio is somewhat known to US fans however Lockett is being said as the lead opponent. If Lockett, who has never fought outside of Europe, gets the fight with Pavlik then Andy Lee will fight Marco Antonio Rubio. As you know Andy Lee is managed and trained by Emmanuel Steward and just signed with Top Rank last week.
4. In other Andy Lee news, he is scheduled to fight on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights on March 21 against Brian Vera. He also has a date in April for a club fight card in Detroit. However he may have to step off of his May fight date because Bob Arum does not want him to possibly get injured before his June 7 debut on Top Rank.
