Carlos Quintana vs Paul Williams Rematch!! Repeat or Revenge

This Saturday, June 7, Carlos Quintana faces Paul Williams in a WBO Welterweight Title rematch. In their first fight, on February 9, Quintana came in as a huge underdog and beat up Williams to earn a UD as well as the WBO Title. After not being able to land a big opponent, Quintana agreed to fight Williams again. The rematch has so many questions around it that it is interesting. Was weight an issue for Williams? Was it just an off night for Williams? Was Quintana underestimated? Because of the ease of victory for Quintana, many wonder if he is the fighter that has Williams number. Somewhat similiar to how Vernon Forrest has Sugar Shane Mosley's number. Hopefully in this rematch all these questions will be answered. Paul Williams of course says he just had an off night and he will win impressively. Quintana, who was the underdog in the first fight and still an underdog by many in the rematch, says he can repeat his performance and possibly KO Williams. For those who were all on the Paul Williams bandwagon, seeing him beaten and cut up was a hard pill to swallow. The truth of Williams being overrated came out. The fact that Williams throws lots of punches, but they do not have a lot of power came out. The fact that Williams jab sometimes comes across as a backhand slap came out. If you read my preview to their first fight, I said Williams has several weaknesses that he could pay for such as keeping his hands low and taking too long to bring his hands back(admiring his punches). Now Williams says he will be ready to fight come Saturday, but some habits such as keeping the hands low can never be corrected. He has been doing that for years and it is not corrected in just a few short months. Do I think Williams has a chance of winning, yes but I am not so sure he will. Quintana was underestimated in the first fight mainly because of his loss to Miguel Cotto. He was about the only person that knew he could win. Now after he won, he has that much more confidence in doing it again. See the mental advantage is going to Quintana because he has already proven he can beat Williams, but Williams has not proven he can beat Quintana. I see Quintana being active on his feet once again and timing Williams backhands I mean jabs once again. Quintana does not have KO power, but he does have power. If he can time his punches well again, he can open up those cuts he left Williams with in the first fight. In order for Williams to win, he is going to have to keep his hands up and not be so predictable. I would rather him throw less punches that actually have meaning instead of more of those pointless punches. It takes more for a fighter to win than to just throw punches. Honestly I think Quintana will come out with a decision victory again. I think Quintana is a very good boxer who is totally focused and confident. Williams will come to the fight with more determination, but I think he will fall short again. Weight maybe an issue for him, not sure because he will not admit it. At 6'2, 147 pounds is hard to keep no matter the age. This fight should be very interesting. You can catch this fight live on Showtime this Saturday at 9pm EST.
