Vernon Forrest-Sergio Mora Preview

This Saturday Vernon Forrest defends his WBC Super Welterweight Title against an undeserving Sergio Mora. If Mora was not the Contender Champion and had name recognition, this fight would never be happening. However name recognition is what sells fights. Sergio Mora is fighting for the first time in the Super Welterweight Division after fighting as a Middleweight most of his career. As I think about this fight it really appears to be a waste of time. Mora is a slick fighter, but has no power as his 5 KOs in 21 fights shows. The only thing he can do to really frustrate Forrest is keep dancing around. If Mora decides to trade shots with Forrest, he may very well go to sleep. I just really hate that this fight is happening because Mora has done nothing since the Contender. He got more press for not taking a Championship fight against then Undisputed Middleweight Champion Jermain Taylor then he has for any win in his entire career. What is really funny is, he kept saying Taylor could never beat him, but no one knew the reason why is because Mora was not going to fight him. Now a little over a year later with a lackluster draw and a win over a nobody, Mora is fighting for a World Title in a division he was not ranked in. Get the hell out of here. Vernon Forrest is taking the fight because he needs a fight. Forrest is one of those fighters who is similiar to Winky Wright in the sense no one is calling his name. Forrest has called out everyone, but no one answers back. So in order to keep fighting and earning a living he takes this fight. Forrest has more power, experience, strength, better chin and the list goes on than Mora. Forrest has recovered well from his shoulder injuries and is fighting well these days. I expect Forrest to win. The only thing I am not liking about Forrest is his attitude. Lately I have read transcripts with Forrest using lots of profanity. Now he is a grown man and he can do what he wishes, but I do not think that is the man he is. He has always had a confident attitude but using harsh language has not been his style. I know he is frustrated by not getting the big fights he really wants and deserves, but you should not lose your cool. We know Mora does not deserve a title shot, even Mora knows that. Mora has admitted that, but it is his job to make the best of it. Same goes for Forrest in the fact he has to do his job no matter who the opponent is. I hope Forrest goes back to the good guy he has shown most of his career. Real boxing fans see you for the Champion you are, no need to ruin the fans you have by adopting an attitude that really is not yours. My prediction Forrest by UD, I see Mora avoiding danger by not wanting to exchange. You can watch this fight on Showtime Saturday June 7 at 9pm EST. It is the main event of a doubleheader that includes the rematch between Carlos Quintana and Paul Williams.
