Remember When Floyd Mayweather Jr. Was Ducking Ricky Hatton???

You know I keep listening to all these so-called boxing analysts discuss why Floyd Mayweather Jr. decided to retire. I hear that he was ducking Miguel Cotto. The funny thing is, no one is mentioning the night of June 25, 2005. For those of you who may have forgotten that day, I will bring you up to speed. June 25, 2005 was the day Floyd Mayweather Jr. headlined his first PPV card against Arturo Gatti. What many fail to mention about that night is both Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto sat ringside of that fight. As we all know Mayweather totally embarrassed Gatti in six rounds. At the end of that fight neither Cotto nor Hatton had anything to say about fighting Mayweather. The funny thing was, they both came over there to size Mayweather up to fight him later that year. However neither one wanted a piece of him. So a couple years later they say he is scared of Ricky Hatton. Hatton finally gets Mayweather in the ring and we will see below what happened to him. Now critics are saying he is afraid of Miguel Cotto. Please!!!! I am a huge Cotto fan. I think he is one of the best fighters in the world today. However, I believe Floyd Mayweather Jr. would pick him apart. Sorry to all of those people who want to say Mayweather is ducking Cotto, but that is what you said about Hatton. But if you want to see who was really ducking who, pull out the HBO PPV recording of Mayweather-Gatti. Look at the two other Junior Welterweight Champions, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto. See their expressions as Mayweather dismantled Gatti in Gatti's backyard. Then listen carefully as you hear them call Mayweather out. I am still listening and I hear nothing. So how about you critics do that and consider thanking Floyd Mayweather Jr. for not destroying yet another one of the stars of boxing like he did Ricky Hatton. Because if he comes back and destroys Cotto, I do not want to hear the excuses. You know the excuses of the other fighter being old, less experienced, too many ring wars, etc. So what I want you critics to do is watch the video below of one of the fighters you said Mayweather was ducking at 140 and tell me what you see. Then think of what could happen to Miguel Cotto if Mayweather decides to answer the knock at the door to fight him. You know what they say, be careful of what you ask for because an ass whooping could be what you get. Isn't that right Ricky? Oh I forgot it was Joe Cortez's fault why you got hit all those times and the ring post moved in the way. Oops did I spoil the outcome of the video???

So much hype about Floyd, yeah he deserves praise for dominating the ring this far. The only problem, though, is that he wants to quit when quality opponents are looming around. If He Gave us a fight against either Cotto or Pavlik, I would not doubt his prowess. Otherwise, announcement of retirement is just an excuse to run away from possible defeats. Who said that these fight wont him a heafty pay? Unfortunately the title "Pound For Pounds The Best" is supposed to include these eventualities, however, the problem is that Floyd does not want to give the boxing community the benefit of the doubt. Shame on you Floyd for running away from fights that should have sealed your greatness. My current opinion is that you are not are great as you ve been said to be as greatness does not walk away from challenges.

In boxing, there will always be a challenge no matter what. There will always be someone that said you ran away from someone no matter what. Floyd has always said 154 down he would fight anyone, so Pavlik would not fit in that list. As stated when Cotto had a chance to fight Floyd, he turned it down. To be honest, you do not hear Cotto saying he wants to fight Mayweather now. The boxing public says it but not Cotto. Now lets say Mayweather comes back and beats Cotto, then people will say he avoided Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito and if Andre Berto looks good then him too. It will never stop. It will never stop and if his desire is not there why keep fighting. This reminds me so much of when he was at 140 and moved up and Brian Kenny and others said he was avoiding Ricky Hatton. He finally fought Hatton and the excuses were rolling. Fans will never be happy.

Thank you for pointing this out.

Now were supposed to believe PBF is scared of Cotto?

He goes in rocks Cotto and the next thing they will say is that he is scared of Paul Williams, (funny thing though I think Paul can beat him), he beats Paul they will call him out for Andre Berto.

If he is serious about retiring let the man alone, there are plenty of others who can rock Cotto's boat.

Glad I could point it out. I love Miguel Cotto. I am a huge fan, but for the media to say Floyd is scared of him makes me laugh. You know what man, go to youtube and look up the Mayweather-Gatti fight. There is a post that is called All Shook Up and it shows both Hatton and Cotto at the fight. The reason I did not post it is because whoever made the video had text on the screen calling Hatton and Cotto names I do not respect or use. The person who really gets on my nerves trying to dog Floyd is Brian Kenny from ESPN. He said Floyd was dodging Hatton. Then when he beat Hatton, Kenny had the nerve to actually say Joe Cortez was part of the cause. Now it is Floyd is dodging Cotto. However no one ever mentions June 25, 2005 when Hatton and Cotto both sat there and had no response about fighting Floyd. I know Cotto is quiet, but if he really wants to fight Floyd he needs to state it loud and clear. Ricky did and well him and the ring post had a nice quickie in front of millions.
